New Rims rub against shock..help
Hey Guys,
I got a set of 2010 GT500 wheels I'm trying to put on my 97 GT, they are 18x9. The front fit ok with a small spacer, but the back rub against the rear shocks/axle support.(Not sure the name of it). When I went to get wheels priced out the mechanics said that this support could be removed, I didn't know too much about that. If this was true then the wheels would fit fine...I was thinking about adding a 1" spacer and/or some longer bolts to set the offset. Can I have some advice?
Thanks,
John W

Is it a quad shock or the shock that runs to the trunk?
If it is a quad shock you can remove it, but I believe that it is advised to get better lower control arms. Read this and you will see why. https://mustangforums.com/forum/susp...ion-guide.html

Why can't people just buy the right offset wheels for their cars instead? Just because the bolt holes line up doesn't mean it will work.
I'd say get the spacer. Your rear wheels are going to be tucked under the fender and look kind of funny.

True. I guess I'm so used to people getting S197 take offs b/c they are cheap and get a deal on them. Then spend extra to make them fit right (spacers, having to switch to the right diameter tire etc...) instead of just getting the right ones in the first place.
