I basically just launched off idle. Didn't want to hook, panic and blow the car up ( first racing experience = anxiety and overthinkin). Hopefully tomorrow I will be to drop that to a 2.0 and hit 13.7xx.

13.9 with 2.2 = 13.5 with 2.0

also a very small amount of wheel spin is a good thing as it helps keep from bogging the motor down, but too much will obviously slow you down.

2.2 is a little high on street tires, but 1st time out with the 5speed... I wouldn't sweat that. 2.05 might be a decent goal to shoot at with your current set-up.

BTW, as a general rule, you can expect to improve your ET almost .2 seconds for every drop of .1 seconds in 60' time. If you can shave .15 off your 60', that will put you around a 13.6 ET.

GOOD LUCK and remember to just have fun with it!!!

What RPM are you guys with similar mods to me or OP, on summer tires, launching at? I was hittin between 2500-3000 and found it very difficult to tone done my 60'. I'm not a very experienced dragger, but I've done it more than a handful of times. Still got some work to do on my clutch feathering, but I've gotten pretty good at it, just need to work on the consistency. Anyway, got any tips for cutting the 60' at 2.05 or less??

Best mod ever on a 5spd for drag racing is a 2 step. Launch at the exact same rpm every time, if you spin turn it down 200 rpm, if you bog raise it 200 rpm. Consistency is the absolute key to making improvements.

are you dropping the clutch or slipping it? I would bring it up like you're taking off from a redlight and feather the clutch and roll into the throttle. you should net better times doing this on street tires.

how you described is about how i normally launch, however im normally at 3k rpms when i initially take off... (maybe that's considered slipping it? i'm not sure) are you saying i should take off like from a normal red light, where im not really giving it much gas at all, then give it more throttle while i feather??

and i do have a two-step set, started at 2600, then bumped to 2800, and now at 3k, though i'm still not sure i'm happy with it. i was just curious what others were launching at to get sub 2.1sec 60' times with around the same power output.

I completely agree with killjoy on the technique for street tires.
While it may not be the absolute best possible 60', it will be close and more consistent. This is especially true for guys with gears and street tires.

Practice, practice, practice.
Good luck, and enjoy!
