i've said it before, and call me old school, but theres somethin i just don't like about the large increase in electrical components in newer vehicles (not just the stang), esp electronic throttle bodies. also, s197+ stangs have a hydraulic clutch, which i think takes away from some of the muscle car appeal (plus i've heard of a few issues with the '11 clutches in particular).

to those who say the '11 is soo much faster, motor trend clocked it at 12.8 in 1/4mile, which, and i know this may be a shock, is the same exact 1/4 mile they clocked for a 2003 cobra!! don't believe me?? check it out; 03 cobra: http://wot.motortrend.com/ten-of-the...sted-3109.html ; and 2011 gt: http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...t_numbers.html .

my thought is to test drive both of them and see which one is a better feel for you.
Manufacturers are only required to make OEM parts for cars 7 years after their release date. Seeing that the new edges went from 99-04 and most parts are interchangeable from year to year throughout that time, they are making parts probably until the end of this year. After that, it will probably be under motorcraft that they will make parts and they wont be as quality as the Ford Genuine part.

Also, here's a quick comparison for ya...the new GT has a 6 speed, with 5th gear being the 1:1 gear instead of 4th like the 03 cobra. So there is another shift to be made in the new GT over the 03 Cobra before it crosses the traps. Factor that in, and with a different transmission, the 2011 GT would be faster.

Do full bolt-on's for both cars and they stay right there with eachother in power. Intake, exhaust, and a tune would net each right in the lower 400's.

Either way, I'd much rather have the newer car with a warranty still on it than the 03 cobra. Someday soon I'll be test driving a new 2012 GT. Friend of mine owns a Ford dealership and he said I could stop by and take one for a spin.

Come on people...wake up. This isnt 2004 anymore. There are better cars out now. There is nothing special about a cheezy interior that happens to have a set of decent seats, or an IRS that wasnt really designed for the car... or a motor with a terrible supercharger on top of it.

For the money, the newer Mustangs are far better cars, in every aspect. Its better on the inside, has a way better suspension, better motor, better on gas.. the list goes on.
^^^ Agree HOSS , Tremi is awesome" FOR ITS TIME" !! But the 2011 GT is just so far ahead in technology that its a much better car..Period

@OP get the 2011 GT over the Tremi much more can be made of it

Does anyone know the stock internal limits of both cars? I was under the impression that the terminators could hold a lot more power, but i really don't know for sure.

Terminators can hold a lot of power. But you get piston swell youre done. 2011's are holding up well to the 600's. Theres an F1 procharged 2011 with 20 psi making 760rwhp on E85. I dont think the limits of the new GT are found yet.

Driven both and love both. If its not a DD then the choice is up in the air. If it is a DD, then the 11 hands down. The Cobra is just raw which doesn't make for a great DD, but it makes for an awesome toy! lol

I haven't driven a 2011 5.0, but I have driven a 2003 Cobra. If it were me, I would go with the 2011 5.0. You can make nearly as much power, and the interior has come leaps and bounds.

I don't know how tall you are, but I am 5'10". I always felt cramped in the '03 Cobra. I have an '06 GT, and it is way better suited for a taller person. If you are a shorty, I guess it really doesn't matter.

I personally prefer the newer style over the Edge body style as well. No disrespect to the '03/'04 Cobras....they are awesome. Just not comfortable to me.

I'm just speaking from my experience. I played around with the adjustments in my '03 cobra, but the S197's just felt better. It was the same with my '04 gt.

I always felt jammed up. Maybe I just got used to the interior of the '06, as I drive it the most.

I'm 6'3". lol

I feel a bit tight at times but I'm used to it and kind of like it to be honest. One thing is for sure, no one is fitting in the back seat with me driving! lol
