The tune is a great mod for these cars. I bought a Sniper unit. Noticed a very nice difference. Besides recalibrating for speedo and tire size, all I really did was create a "base" tune with it, then go back in and advance the timing 2 degrees all around. I think there's 3 different areas to adjust the timing? I didn't really know what the hell I was doing, but 2 degrees seemed reasonably conservative for 91 octane. It made a very nice difference in the way the engine performs and it doesn't knock or ping, so I'm good with it.

I've thought about one of these, glad to hear you felt hp gains. Not that it is my main concern, but what did it do to gas mileage? Do they offer a "economy" tune for everyday driving? My brother had a turbo escort and he could tune his car right on a screen and he could get awesome gas mileage on trips if he wanted to.

More power from an engine resulting from an improved tune means it is running more efficiently. More efficient operation equals decreased fuel consumption...

That is sort of true, however only because with a manual transmission the limitations of the slushbox are absent and shift points are controlled by the driver...
