I got the NGK TR6's for about $2 a plug, to me that seems pretty dang cheap, are the stock replacements more $?

How often are you supposed to change out spark plugs???

My car is 10 years old and I've had it for about 9 months, and I haven't changed them yet.

And how do you know when they are starting to "go bad"?
Or do you just change them after so many miles or something?

I change my plugs every 3rd oil change.

I use the Autolite's. Can't remember what number. The cheap ones. $2 a pop I believe. Gap em @ 54.

Expensive plugs are overrated.

I think I'll just change mine since I don't know the last time they were changed.

OK, thanks for all the replies.

Plug replacement should be considered if the vehicle misfires, has high mileage since the last change, or if adding a large power adder (one step colder or something? hope someone else can explain).

Should the plugs be changed when the car hasn't been driven in a while so the heads are not hot?

^ WRONG. Changing plugs is part of routine preventative maintenance. Would you wait until your car starts to knock to change the oil?

I wait a short while to let it cool just so I don't have to touch the hot *** engine and burn myself.

Because there are different plugs that have different mileage 'ratings', the "high mileage" itself will vary. If copper plugs are rated 30k miles, 40k miles would be very high while a 60k mile platinum plug would be OK I'm guessing at the same 40k miles.

Now tell me, what is wrong with considering changing the plugs if the vehicle misfires or when adding a large power adder like nitrous or a blower?

Hey man...not trying to argue. Just saying that it's part of preventative maintenance. Meaning...you change them for no good god damned reason. I'll continue to change mine every 3rd oil change. You continue to change them when your car misfires. Cheers!
