Default 4.6 or 4.6PI?

I just picked up a 1996 4.6L T-Bird. The previous owner claims it has had an engine change and now has a "PI" version in it.
This is my first mod motor and I'm wondering how to tell the difference????

the aluminum crossover that houses the thermostat would be aluminum instead of platic. as far as the valve covers on my 03GT the oil fill is on the passenger side but on my t bird non pi its on the driver side. And the Gt has no spark plug wires but the t bird does have spark plug wires. Thats all I can think of right no eventually others will chime in to drop some info on you.

I have a 2002 Mustang GT engine with the factory PI heads and the oil fill is on the driver's side as well.
