Headers for turbo?

Quick question guys--

Are shorty headers any better then just running stock manifolds w/ a turbo? Id have to get rid of my o/r h pipe and LTs but what do you all think??

i would have to say yes. but why not get the on3 forward facing kit?

Unless you plan on making a lot of HP, no.

Because it's chinese junk...?

The idea of forward facing is cool and seems beneficial but unless you're making a lot of power they aren't really beneficial. Proper turbo specs is the most important thing when putting together a kit. I know of quite a few people who installed Hellion kits and run mid to low 11s on the stock block.

ctgreddy 10-02-2011 12:03 AM

well i would hope so. i know someone who ran mid 11's on a strim stock longblock i'd be pissed if a turbo car with a 5+ thosand dollar kit didn't run better than a rinky dink strim setup. no need to get pissy.

Well i thought about the On3 Kit but i think im going with a custom fabbed kit. My tuner fabs turbo kits. He's done em on some Vettes, F-bodies, Chevelles so i trust him. If i could just get the headers from On3 id be for getting the FF headers but i doubt they do that..

And i don't want to custom fab manifolds because my guy said they get really pricey. I would like to maybe trade my LTs for some shorties..

You can get the headers from on3 they have an upgrade kit.for those that have there first gen system.

mustangmancp 10-02-2011 04:04 PM

Well i don't have a first gen kit to begin with...so im kind of out of luck.

Can i not just buy a set of shorties??

ctgreddy 10-02-2011 05:44 PM

you can buy shorties. they aren't going to hurt anything at all and will look better at the least. plus i'd imagine a good set of shorties would hold up better than a stock set of manifolds.

teej281 10-02-2011 07:05 PM

Cast iron thick walled manifolds not holding up as well as a pair of much thinner walled possibly mild steel shorties? That doesnt seem right to me...

And to the OP, you can get tubular turbo headers for your car. I know a lot of companies that offer tubular headers with their turbo kits will offer them for sale by themselves. Good luck on your search. Do some searching over on theturboforums.com. They have a section of their website dedicated to modular mustangs. Hopefully these guys that don't have turbo's on their cars are offering correct advice!
