Default First run at the 1320 last night.

Well guys, I took the steed out and had some fun.. made 6 passes. my first being a 16.554 just to see the track, and it was my first time ever at the strip.

My best pass of the night looked like this:

R/t: .585
60': 2.225
330: 6.207
1/8: 9.430 @ 77.63 mph
1000': 12.194
1/4: 14.551 @ 96.37mph

This was on 275/45/17 Nexen N3000's... They seemed to hook pretty well. I manual shifted the car on 4 of 6 runs, this run I shifted it myself, it seems to drop much lower into the rpms when its just in Drive, even if the actual shifts are at the same RPMs. Manual shifting creates a much more precise, firm shift.

I took the Drag Radials from the cobra out with me sense that car is just sitting in the garage, as im sure you've all seen, but they seemed to make no difference, and my 60' slowed to a best of 2.387, they spun a bit, atleast I heard them and felt it more than my street tires... but they are on 18" wheels vs. my normal 17s.. Just wanted to check it out.

My mods are 3.73s, H&R SS's and a tune via a hypertech.

I'm not dissapointed, I had alot of fun, but I need to work on some things. My buddy with a non PI 5 speed hung with me the entire way until about 1/8 and I pulled him a bit, but he's just tune, and gears, and exhaust..

What do you guys think should be my next step in getting the times down a bit?

More practice at the track will be the best way to lower your times.

Your already at a disadvantage to most of us on the forums cause your alt.

Get that 60 ft down to a 1.8 on street tires practice makes perfect.. just by going to the track every week within two months I was 1.4 seconds faster than when I started... ( not saying your going to drop that much) but practice is the most important mod.

Something's wrong with that 60-foot time. When you say it went slower on DRs, it sounds like it wasn't spinning at all. Is that right?

With the DRs, I made sure to do a healthy burnout, and get em heated up, but it made absolutely no difference, it slowed me about .1 seconds in 60'. I could hear the DRs spin, but only for a tiny bit. The street tires, I didnt hear spin, but I never do, I only feel em, but neither spun long enough to really say "wow, I spun bad". My launches felt great, but they were obviously pretty lame. How much of this is because of the stock stall? what are you guys on stock stall'd autos getting for 60 foot times?

I know Ryan suggested practice to get your 60' down to 1.8's but I don't think thats happening with the way your car is right now. Stock convertors blow *** man, I know all about that. I put 16 passes on my car this season the best 60' I could pull was 2.0 I'm running 305/35/18 Drag radials and have a stock convertor. Did you air down those drag radials ? When I first started at the track with my Drag radials I aired way down and was later told about tire pressures and how you will bog off the line if they're down too far. I aired up to 30 psi and the car will hook like that and it instantly started running quicker. I also then pumped my fronts to 40 psi and dropped a little more time off.

Are you foot braking off the line or leaving off idle ? I foot braked it for the longest time before someone on here suggested the "flash method" to me. Which is basically just sitting at the tree at idle with foot on the brake. On the third yellow mash the go pedal and make sure to get off the brake at the same time. Launching like that took 2 tenths off my 1/4 et

Yeah, I've grown up racing dirtbikes, and launching them, and understanding throttle control and I just didnt think I could do much else with the stock converter, Ill try the mash mathod, my front tires were at about 30psi, and the drag radials about 35... I just dont see getting my 60' down to 1.8, especially being slammed like I am.. maybe I'm wrong.?

Unless I'm missing something in your sig I don't see 1.8's IMO. A torque convertor would help a ton. I really want to put one in my car.

I definately agree, 1.8's are impossible on my current set-up.. I just can not launch hard enough.

Maybe some people like CTGreddy, or 97stanger will chime in with what they were doing when their cars were at this level, and what worked for them..

The car felt quick up top, I just think my launches, and the first 120 ft, are killing me until im above the stock stall speed and actually into my power band.

Think LCA's will make a difference? I know practice will help, but just curious as to what others order of set ups have gone.
