Thumbs up Tit for tat????

Ok, i have an idea or a shopping cart. I have a 2003 mustang gt and around tax time im going to put time and hard work and thought into my car or just give in and spend $800 on a glorified shaker(cai) system.

My idea is to call in some where and just get the mount for the shaker and get like plumbing off of a ram air car (like a grand am ram air elbow.) I need to go to my local yard and measure the width and height of it and see if it will fit(fabricating that wont be a problem) But now for the tricky part. The stock mustang gt hood is held on by tap(no screws) IF IM WRONG PLEASE TELL ME but it is just 3mm 2 sided tape...I want to get a set of hood pins and make a hole through the grand am elbow, and scoop mounted ontop of the shaker bracket ontop and over my throttle body to where when i open my hood it stays there. The plumbing is no problem just right to my heat shield, With 3 small rubber hoses down the fender well wall for water drainage, and if it even goes all the way it wont hit the filter because it will be under it just filling the air box but it would fall to the ground by my headlight hole thing in the engine bay IN PUT WOULD BE AMAZING guys and would love to hear if you have any pros and cons about this.

^+1 maybe put it in LT's and gears instead, with those mods you will actually feel a difference but with the shaker you only gain looks

The stock GT hood "scoop" is fastened by 7 studs and nuts...

Also, here is some good reading re: the myth of "ram air". It is a bit technical, however that's because any reasonable discussion of the subject needs to be.

The bottom-line is that for speeds of less than 228mph air is incompressible, I.e. it does not have enough mass to compress itself at lesser velocities.

What about cooling the engine bay? Do you think it would make any significant change in temperature?

Without any specific ducting it would likely reduce airflow through the radiator and decrease cooling capacity--the short story is that even if connected to the intake all it does is "look cool"...

The FoMoco shaker hood is the best. mod. ever. No performance gain but the cool points are off the chart.

I shall have one on my Mustang one day.

humor me for a moment...

228mph correct?

In theory, could you drive around 128-130 mph INTO a 100mph wind, and get an increase in HP through the ram air system? (clearly this would be negated by the 100mph headwind, but still)

You could, however it would only get you maybe 1/2psi boost...
