I thought there was issues with the amp/sub connections where different noise/signal filters had to be cut in-line. Do you have a link for the harness/typical 2-din HU?
My install was smooth. I PM'd what I know with a couple links.
Here's one, how about black paint that decent fade, swirl, scratch, oxidize, or get any door dings, and always look wet. That's what I really want. And the cf ideas along with IRS, and for the coyote motor to be smog legal in California!!!!!

Can you post or PM those links too. Not having a cd player has been killing me and I get no radio stations out in the woods where I live. I always thought it was a big project to install a headunit.

Just go to crutchfield.com and search for a new stereo. The wiring harness to plug into the Mach 460 and the mounting bracket are included. (if the stereo is over $129 or something like that.). Plus you input your make and model vehicle and it makes sure you get everything you need and that it's compatible with your car. And like said above a "double DIN" is a direct size replacement on our '03s. I have my eye on the JVC 610, basic but my big things are iPod control and USB input. And at $169, which includes all install accessories and shipping, I don't know why I've waited so long.
And just to add, 90% of the install takes place on your kitchen table. Solder or use crimped connectors to connect the wiring harness to the stereo. After that pop off the trim around the stereo. Unbolt/screw the old stereo. Unplug the wiring harness from the back of it. Plug and bolt in the new one. Super simple even if it's your first time.
Installing a stereo is probably the easiest modification you can do. When you start putting in new speakers is where its no fun. Should only take about 20min to instal a headunit though.
Projectresto, the one benefit getting a used on is that you can trade for your solid axle most of the time. I understand though. I had to drive about 4 hours each way (to las vegas) to pickup my IRS.
