I just read a article where it said due to the current economy gas sales are down. For the first time in a long time, we are now exporting more than we are bringing in. So if nothing has changed, it seems drilling more wells will not benefit us in any way. Seems the oil companies will just get richer selling it to other countries.

And for the bad MPG, I have always heard it has to do with them cutting the gas with additives.

^That's what I had read a while back. We are supplying other countries who refuse to do business with OPEC instead. Which is why we aren't really independent though we could be.

My gas mileage is okay. Maybe its purer in NJ.

Amen... This is why I recently bought my ar-15, i figured obama would try to reinstate the assault weapons ban that Clinton started... I'm in the process of getting my pistol permit too, i figure its only going to get harder from here to get one...

EDIT:
Yes, sorry OP, i figured my bad gas mileage to "winter gas" as well. Check your airfilter just in case and clean your MAF sensor too. The MAF can look clean but remove it and clean it with MAF cleaner (or brake parts cleaner, its all the same. im sure someone can verify this)

Yup, I think Cliffy nailed it with the ethanol content. Typically, your fuel mileage drops a measurable amount with higher ethanol content used in the winter months.

Also spot on about leveraging the oil resources we possess instead of letting other reap the revenue from what we could do ourselves. Also agree with buying from Canada vs the middle-eastern countries that hate us. Reducing energy dependence requires us to use what we have while we work on developing new sources.

If you look at the signs on the pump you will see that it says "May contain up to xx% ethanol". The key word being "may", when it "does" your mpg tanks (no pun intended)--and you will never know when this happens.

The solution is to vote the leftist socialist bastards out, start drilling and using our own fossil fuels, and telling the rag-heads (a lousy 13% of our total petroleum sources) to "stuff it"...

Yeap. We've crossed the point of no return in my 22 year old opinion.

I changed my spark plugs and fuel filter last weekend and my mileage went up 10 percent. Also switched to no ethanol gasoline due to the carbon I found on the plugs and the crap I found in the filter. Older engines were not made for ethanol based fuel.

If you realised a 10% increase in mpg from plugs and a fuel filter then their replacement was LONG overdue.

Also carbon deposits on the plugs are from short trips and/or the plugs being too cold a heat range for your driving style--ethanol (much as it makes me vomit) does not do that.
