Default Make profit fixing 2000 GT?

Hey, I love working on mustangs and I re-did the drivetrain of an 89 5.0 last summer for myself, so I know how to do it. I want another project this summer and would love to buy a car, fix it up, and sell it for more, so if anyone knows if the following idea is profitable, please tell me.

Someone not too far from me is selling a 2000 Mustang GT 5spd in black, 87000 miles, in-garage car, no winters. A few after-market parts (stereo and such). It needs a new clutch and is being offered for $6200, he says the price reflects the clutch. I haven't inspected it so I don't know if the car holds any unpleasant surprises.

Would selling it in working order give me a profit you think? I don't know how much a car like this would go for if it was in working order.

I also would love to have a car this summer and a car for the dream cruise this year as I will be selling my 89 5.0. So more than just profit in mind.

Thanks!

That is too much for that car IMO. With it needing a new clutch, and those miles I think he's about a grand too high.....again...in my opinion.

not going to make a profit at that price.
And that whole make a profit gig almost never works out unless you get the vehicle for real real cheap. I bought my car 5yrs ago to make a profit and ended up selling my 85 GT because I ended up putting so much $ into this 96. and to this day I'm still dumping $ into it

That's the problem for guys like us; I paid $29,500 for my 03',brand new in April 2003, and proceeded to dump about $18,000 in mods for parts and labor over the years. That totals $47,500, YIKES!! Needless to say, she's mine for life! I'd be lucky to get $10,000. My new Cobra Short block and SuperCharger cost me $12,500 ALONE! But I get some comfort when I went and checked the sticker price for 2012 Verts', $42,000, and I can eat them alive. I don't like to street race, but just last month I ended up at a red light next to one; He hammered it at green, got a little jump on me; I took my foot off the gas@105mph, and he was about 6-8 car lengths behind me. Poor guy was devestated, lol!!

It's doable, but not at that price. I bought a 99 GT convertible with a blown head gasket for $2850. It has 187K on it, but that doesn't mean anything in Texas. I currently have $2950 in it and I am figuring after it's all said and done, I will have around $3300 in it. I can turn a profit on that for sure.

Buying a new car is the quickest way there is to lose thousands of dollars, as soon as your license plates go on it you have lost 15% to 20% of what you just paid--even more if it's a Chrysler product.

Here in NE Florida I have seen higher mileage 75k+ '05 GTs for $9k, and '08 and '09s in the mid teens...

Not in my area. You can't touch a new edge for $3500, even non running with high mileage.
