Default Info on SCT XCal 2

Wanted to buy the SCT X3 tuner , came across a cheap SCT XCal 2 and wanted to know if they are any good ? Atleast compared to the X3 ? If anyone has had both I would like to hear the pro's and cons or differences. One guy said once those XCal 2's are used they are vin locked is that true ? Thanks

It is true they are vin locked. However, when the vehicle is returned to its stock tune, it is unlocked. You can then reset the xcal and upload new tunes for a new car. It can go through this cycle for 5 different cars. After that it has to be returned to SCT to be reset. It vin locks so only one car can be tuned at a time with the same xcal.

I have an xcal2 I used on my 97 cobra. It was a good tuner and got the job done. With the 05+ mustangs, it has more usable options as far as end User adjustment. It was limited with my 97 based on the car. The xcal2 is a good choice for you in my opinion if you can get it cheap, just make sure the previous vehicle it was used on was returned to stock and try to find out how many other cars it was used on. SCT website has all the downloadable files you need to clear the memory and update the software if it has not yet been done, as long as you have the proper usb cable to connect it to your laptop/desktop. Its a basic cable though you can find at best buy or somewhere like that.
