Default 2011+ GT Transmission

[rant type="geezer" warning="be advised"]

It may be common knowledge, however I just found out yesterday¹, that the 6-speed transmission used in the 2011/12 GTs is made in China!

China for God's sake, a "joint venture of Ford and Getrag" (what a horrid name, reminds me of "on the ...").

I know there are a slug of Asian produced components in our cars, and that the T-3650 is made in Mexico (at least that's in North America), but China? Does that make it now Sino-American Muscle?

FWIW-I understand that there have been numerous complaints about shifting problems--the stock shifter is a real monkey-motion looking thing that hangs off the back of the tranny:

No doubt an NVH dominated, "screw performance", design decision. This is the kind of crap that makes me glad I'm old--and won't have to deal with it for a whole lot longer...

[/rant]

------------------------------------------------------
¹ - A fellow asked that I add the MT82 transmission to my calculator--which has been done, along with the new 6R80 6-speed auto.

Hell, almost all tools are made there. I went to Lowe's the other day and could not find ONE power tool made in North America, much less the USA (and I looked at over 50 power tools.. I had some free time..). Lotta good minimum wage and the unions did for our manufacturers! But that's another rant in and of itself..

Hi Cliffy..yes there was a big issue with the china made trannys in 11-12 GT.
Its pretty sad that FORD ruined its rep by putting these Getrag junks in the Mustang GT.

They should have just stuck with the Tremec's T series

Maybe they were cheaper and Ford tried to cut a corner.
