^ agree completely. I have a buddy putting down 540whp thru a stock auto, it had a stock rebuild about 2 years ago but has been at that power since last spring. then again, he never really gets on it. :/

If you want a built trans cheap buy a low mileage 4r75w. They handle a lot in stock form and can handle a lot more when rebuilt.

I've been tosing the idea of an auto swap, but from a cost approach I'd be going with a 3 speed c4, yes no overdrive sucks, but for the price you can't beat it, and they rate them up to crazy power levels. Big fan of PA performance c4s, go with a mean stall, trans break, RMVB, hammer shifter.

Thats because c4s are NON Lockup transmissions....

if you were to never lock your 4r70w I bet the things would hold 800+ hp no problems if you upgraded the clutch packs and did a JMOD

Agreed, but the price of built c4 to a built 4r is Pretty drastic, it all comes down to cash vs overdrive. The 3 speed just gets Annoying on a street car. I had a pa performance c4 in my smallblock ranger alog woth a 9 inch and dana 44 with 5.14 gears and 40 inch boggers, let me tell ya how that puppy was on the road at 5k rpms and 40mph , but it was a ton of fun.

I blew up a bunch of turbo 400s and th700r4s in my k5 blazer, one every two months about. I have 3 th400s and 2 700s sitting in the basement if u need a core lmao, also an assortment of of np203,205,and 208 transfer cases the 205 was a badazz tcase loved the 2h, 2l option but none were a match for my abuse combined with 39inch boggers and crazy pumpkin gears.

Idk why everyone wants to swap to anything but a 4r.

A properly built 4r70w will handle 800 hp WITH lockup....

if you need more you can ditch lockup and make 1500 hp

Are built th400s really a better option after its all said and done?

How much does a built th400 cost and how much are the parts to get it to work in a mustang? Will it still have lockup ?
