Default Trans fluid...experiences?

Hey all,
My trans has had 3rd gear shifting problems since last summer at mustang week. When the trans is not hot, 3rd gear shifts fine. But after about 10 minutes of sustained highway driving, then getting off the highway and driving normally, 3rd grinds when shifting unless I double clutch. Now, before I go and get the trans rebuilt/built or buy a new trans, I'm going to try change the fluid to see if that helps.

Right now I'm looking to see what fluids you guys are running in your transmissions and to see if you have a review on them. What I'm looking for is brand, type of fluid, shift feel, and how it has held up. My car developed this problem at MW with air temps in the 100's, track temps in the 140's, and reasonable cool down time between laps around the race track, auto-x, and 1/4 mile runs. Also thinking about adding a trans cooler to the manual if I can do it(but not for a while anyways). Just trying to get a feel for what you guys are running. I know a lot of Cobra guys over on SVTP are running GM Synchromesh fluid and they love it.

Any info will help guys! Thanks!

Teej

Im not sure about ur 3650, but additives in a syncromesh increase wear to the paper/organic liners in t45. You can never go wrong with royal purple max gear ATF. It is impossible to run a trans cooler on a manual transmission unless u fabricate some kind of pump to cycle the fluid through the cooler, and that might effec the proper fluid levels in the manual trans and u might inadequatly luricate it.

The more i think about it trying to run a pump and trans cooler on a 3650 is a bad idea . Those things are very terpermental when overfilled and underfilled, so with a pump i would have to guestimate how much extra oil to add to keep the trans at proper level with fluid running through the cooler, it just sounds like disaster.

I used Mobil 1 ATF when I had a manual. Shifted very smooth. If I was to do it again I'd use the same.

Well all, changed to pennzoil synchromesh fluid and is extraordinarily smooth! Did not fix my issue of grinding that I know of yet, but it did smooth out the shifts in every gear. Definitely going to be running this in my next trans when I get around to getting one. I can tell you guys I've never driven a mustang that shifted smoother than this. It's wonderful!

Gonna need a rebuild to get rid of the grinding.
