Default Cam guru's...

Ok, I've come up on one possible final last minute change of heart on my build, and have a question for you guys out there! I've seen some EXTREMELY impressive dyno numbers, and track times with CMS stage 2's.. and kind of have a desire to go this route.

CMS stage 2:
560/575 lift
225/235 .050 duration
108 lsa

Original Plan was to go with
MHS Stage 2 Nitrous Cams:
550/540 lift
228/232 .050 duration
111LSA

A little less lift, in the MHS however they have a bit longer duration on the intake side.. CMS has longer duration on exhaust side, and a tighter LSA..

Remember, these will be in a roughly 11:1 motor, valve reliefs in the pistons(both cams need them to be SAFE), Longtubes, BBK 78mm TB/Plenum unit. and a 125-150ish shot from an NX plate kit. I just cant find much "user info" on the MHS stage 2's. However, I've seen Baznasty Dave's car, JayCs car, and a few other builds who have been impressive with CMS.. I think I'm liking the CMS, and am hoping with the 11:1 they wont be to lazy in the lowish - midrange..

I had cms blower cams on my mustang they were 2.5s. I would go cms but go with stage 3 cams especially if u got 11 to 1 compression.

both cam companies are nice but like said above, might go with a little bigger cam with that compression

I don't think you could go wrong with either choice. The tighter LSA with the CMS cams really help N/A. If you're not going to be spraying often then I'd opt for the CMS cams as the nitrous cams will sacrifice a few NA HP to gain a little when spraying.

Yeah, Im more worried about the torque curve as I've read in a few places that the CMS's can be a bit lazy down low, and with the MHS Im sure they will be kinda lazy as well(2k RPM to 3-3500ish is what Im refering too) with the intake duration. I'm stuck between the two. and I KNOW the CMS stage II's do amazing on the juice, however I havent seen anything on the MHS Nitrous cam.

I'm just not sure if the 3* of duration will make up for the lift I would lose on the CMS cams

I think rather than figuring out whether the 3* will make up for the lose of lift I think you need to figure out what you want to build your car for -- N/A or spray and go from there. Nick's cams are spec'd very well.

I haven't heard those 2 cams causing low RPM driveability issues. Have you thought about looking into something with a little more cam duration?

I want to build a car that still drives decent WannaBE, hence the reason I brought up about the laziness. I know BOTH cams will perform VERY well on spray. And NA I dont need a "bada**" NA 2v GT, but if the torque curve is friendlier, it may be a better option for me. ESPECIALLY because I cant find 1 single person with MHS stage 2 nitrous cams... makin some more sense now?

JTB -
I know exactly who you should speak with.
There is a guy on youtube that has a Comp Orange 04 Mustang and has had various different setups.
Most notably-
Stock shortblock, CMS2's, 125/150 plate kit of giggle,T56, 4.10'a yadda yadda ya
Then recently within the past 12 months he has swapped the cams after blowing the shortblock and now has an mmr900 shortblock and MHS stage 2 Nitrous cams.
On his page on youtube, he probably has 10 videos of his car running with both setups.
Point of me saying this is because in all of his comments, he praises the MHS 2' Nitrous Cams over CMS 2 NA's.
When I'm home I'll check out who the F he is and give you his youtube username so you can check it out.
(I only know this bc that is how I wanted to build mine before I sold it like a F'ing *****)

True dat.

IMO iget go for a the CMS's, maybe even go to 2.5's if you have valve reliefs so that way it isnt a dog off the n20
