8 hours does not seem out of the question for an inexperienced mechanic but someone with years of experience should be able to do it in less, my mechanic only charges me 200 to install mine and that is with rebuilding the diff

Way way way to much. I had mine installed with a posi and rebuild for 500. That even that was to much.

There are a handful of Mustang/dyno shops around here and Ive had gears installed a few times using two of them...most I ever paid was $225....the dealership will always be the highest price though

Dealerships go by 'book' price. That means they go by whatever their book tells them is the alloted labor for a particular job, nothing more, nothing less.

Most shops (decent ones) will go by average price meaning what is actual average of time (price) they find it takes to perform the work from experience. When they don't have experience they will fall back to book price for quoting purposes.

I was charged $250 for gear install, new rear seals, and rear mach 1 calipers/brakes installed.

$800 is absurd
