Default another 4.6 police interceptor motor question

I have a friend that owes me and he's going to give me my pick of a 4.6 motor from 3 different police cars. The years are 94,96,98. My Mustang is a 98GT. We have went back and forth on which motor would be the easiest
to put in my car. But I'm not sure. Are they the same? He also has a crown vic motor with lower miles thats out of the car already but it has coils on every plug. What year does this sound like to you guys and will it fit may car with my all my old parts?
Thanks for any help.

get the crown vic engine. if it has the coils, its probly the pi engine. the 96-98 are the npi version. any of these engines will fit the exact same way. the only thing you might want to consider is getting a mustang pi intake manifold if the crown vic has the pi engine. the pi engines are rated at a little more hp and come with better flowing heads and that pi manifold matches the heads better

I was thinking it was a PI engine but wasn't sure it's already out on the floor and the car was crushed. It was a KSP cruiser I do know that much about it,Supposed to be low mi though.
Do you know if the npi exhaust manifolds fit the pi head?

If they are PI heads PI will be in the casting for the cylinder head.

i've actually heard of pi heads not having the pi casted in them.
op, if they are pi heads, the castings will start with RFXL3 or RF1L2E.i'll also post up a little more info later

OK, I've had a couple vics and the crown vic didn't get a pi motor till 2001. They also didn't get COPS till 98. So the one u would want is the 98 one out of those. Sorry if u were thinking u might get a pi motor out of any of those.

Well he's got a 4th motor that he says is 02-03 pi engine out of a police cruiser but he wants $600 for it.
I don't want to do a bunch of costly changes to make it work in my car. I would like a little more power though. I probally will have to buy an intake since my npi intake doesn't fit the pi engine. My engine ran great but has a blown head gasket and it has 175,000 mi. I don't want to just put pi heads on a motor with that many miles. I'm trying to figure out which would be the best choice.
Also my car has the factory theft system will I have to do anything like have it reprogrammed if I swap motors?
Thanks guys

Very well.

No reprogramming needed for your anti theft, you can buy the intake for $239 off american muscle. Just swap them out and away you go. I don't know if you will need a new plenum, TB, etc.
