Default Considering 02 - 04 Mustang GT?

I've been considering the newer 05 - 07 Mustang GTs but from a price aspect I can save at least $4,000+ if I go with a lower mile 02 - 04 Mustang GT instead. By no means will this be my last muscle / sports car I'll purchase. I'm simply looking for a fun car I can drive for 2 - 3 years that'll give me a little fun till I finish up college and purchase a home.

I know which forum section I'm in so I'm prepared for biased answers but I figure some of you can give me some insight if I should just splurge for the new gen S197 Mustangs with an extra 4k+.

The numbers I read (zeroto60times.com) for 05 GTs were 0-60 in 5.0 seconds with a 1/4 time of 13.3 seconds, while the 04 GT Gen were 0-60 5.4 seconds with a 1/4 time of 13.9 seconds. Not a huge difference at face value? Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks!

I'd look into a Mach 1 or a 99,01 Cobra. 03/04 Cobra if you can afford one

+1 on the mach. Our 2vs are nice but really leave a lot to be desired when compared to the competition, from a performance point of view.

While I do love new edges, 05 and up's are just an all around better car.

Sounds like I should splurge the extra 4k - 5k for a newer model..? Quite surprised to hear that to be honest.

even look at a clean older cobra too. my question is, if youre willing to spend a good chunk of money on an s197, why not look for a good terminator? best bang for the buck there for sure. one of the best well rounded cars imo

The dude is looking to save 4 large off of a S197, I doubt he's going to want to spend even more on top of one.

These cars are getting cheap, and it's evident by the amount of younger individuals that have them. If you're willing to consider a Mustang that is a bit slower than your original choice, it's a pretty good deal.
