Looking to go from grand prix's to stangs
Hey guys. i'm new to the forum. i do not have a mustang yet but im looking to get rid of my grand prix. i'm lookin gor a 96-04 with a 4.6. my questions are how many miles could i expect to get from one of these? any common parts that go bad? other than bolt on how easy is to mod? do any of the 4.6's have auto trans? i'm sure ill have more but i figured i'd start with that and see where that gets me. i perfer to do the work on my own cuz i'm a broke college kid.

These 4.6 motors will run a long time if you take care of them. I'm not sure about and really common parts that go bad but I’m sure somebody else on hear knows all about it.
They are very easy to mod. Check the bolt on thread by CliffyK. (Swear the guy is a genius)
There are lots of auto gt's out there, you'll find them.
Don't be scared to ask questions on here no matter how stupid they sound. Some people will be harsh (ignore them) you'll get a good strait answer.
And welcome to the Forum!!

ABS light comes on a lot on these cars. the Mach460 6 disc players go bad nearly instantly if you use CD-Rs and a lot of people have issues with the plastic in take manifold and its plastic housing on the thermostat for the 96-98 modles. in 99 they used a better manifold and encased the thermostat housing in metal.
the 96-98 are stock rated for 205-215hp and the 99-04 are about 260hp. Radiators may go bad but are a quick and easy 30 minute fix to drop in a new one. also a lot of 96-99 models have odometer problems and quit working. Over all the 4.6L is a legacy engine, used in police cars, suvs and taxi cabs. Its a work mule if you ask me and capable of 400,000 miles when maintained perfectly. In a mustang with those heads and compression your gonna get 200,000 miles out of one easy so dont shy away from something with 100K+ miles on it.
everyone can work on these cars and there are tons of aftermarket parts readily available.

i'm actually lookin for somethin around that 100,000 mile mark. that doesn't sound like any unfixable problems. is the 4.6 the same engine as a crown vic? and the availabilty and options for parts on a mustang are better than grand prixs

aftermarket modifications make a car worth less to MANY people. it never increases the value unless its a competition car.

its got the 99-04 p.i heads on it and i was debating on trading my 99gtp for it. i did some looking around but couldnt find anything on replacing a heater core though. does anyone have a good link? and he said its just got the plastic intake approx. how much for the better one?
