Damage on door from break-in
So I bought this 2002 Mustang GT and it came with some door damage. The guy I bought it from said someone had attempted to break-in to the car. The door closes fine
Does anyone here have any experience with body work? If you do, what would you recommend doing to fix this? Or if I were to take it to a body shop, how much would they charge to fix it?

Whoever the thief was, they were stupid. Our cars are so easy to break into, its elementary. Without causing any of that damage.
Your photo, looks like a failed body shop re-skin of the door. IDK how well you knew the seller but I call BS.
Average where I live in the south is about 650.00 for a re-skin and paint at a good shop. Better to have it done right, good luck.

Damn $650?
I'd be better off finding a new door altogether. There's one on Craigslist for $110 but it's torch red color.
I'm not looking for a full restoration of the door because I don't have that kind of money right now, just an easy fix that will make the damage less noticeable. Would someone be able to just pinch it together and tack weld it a few times to hold it in place?

You get what you pay for! Save up, if its not life threatening, or effecting the car any, take your time. Even if you bought the used door you would still have to respray it.
Call around to body shops and ask for quotes, or drive to a couple and see what they quote you. Doing it on the cheap just creates more problems later on.
