At least it's a convertible. That's important.

It is; in fact after having had Miatas for 11+ years (a '90 and two '92s), prior to getting the GT in December of '06, getting a ragtop was part of what motivated me to make a move. I missed it, but also wanted to move back into a sports car--be this a "sport touring" vehicle...

Base level Corvettes, especially those that I could afford (C4s and early C5s), were and continue to be vastly overrated automobiles--under-powered and of not particularly high build quality. The Mercedes is 10 times the car and not all that much more expensive to maintain, I have even found that some parts are quite inexpensive. A new hood liner was only $65.

Here's a pic of the engine (cleaned up with the bits from the rotted hood liner removed):

The two 75 mm intake tubes feed cool air from behind the grill into twin 6" by 12" air filters in the airbox. The airbox feeds a 90 mm MAF and 80 mm TB. The MAF and TB mount vertically feeding directly into the lower plenum...

Nice pick up, clean looking car. Sounds like an interesting intake design.....maybe not the easiest to work on? Haha

Enjoy and I hope you stick around.

Actually I was surprised to find it is built to be repaired; most systems are modular and easily accessible...

Thumbs up day zaa veiw

wow , that benz looks soo much like a foxbody stang, really I stopped an old dude at a gas station awhile back and his was a 98' 500 also. I could see myself in one of those. of course i'd have a coyote engine swap . good luck with her.

There is a strong resemblance, isn't there--not close to the same class of vehicle though.

Why the coyote engine swap? The 5.0L M119 Benz engine is DOHC 32 valves with variable intake cam timing, aluminum block and forged internals. It carries 8.5 gt of oil and has been pushed to over 1000 HP with "bolt-on" twin turbo and supercharged add-ons...
