Default Need help with motor swap

Ok so I have a 2002 mustang GT my block is bad and needs to be changed. So what i did was buy a 96 complete motor and im going to use the block from it and put my 02 intake heads all of it on the 96 block. My question is do i need to get a different gasket to fit the 96 block and then buy the 02 gaskets for the heads intake etc? Any help would be much appreciated.

that depends on what block you got out of the 96. Off the top of my head your likly to have a romeo block on the 02 and a windsor block on the 96, unless you somehow got a cobra aluminum block in which case it would be a teksid. The issue here is not that all the parts swap across. If you have a romeo windsor swap, you just need to use select parts off the 96 like the block obviously, and the timing cover and oil filter coolant neck, but the rest should bolt up pretty straight forward if i remember correctly. and id say make sure you dont cross timing chain stuff, because i beleive there is some difference? check into that. heres where i got some of the info but im going from windsor to romeo teksid, so you just kinda gotta go in reverse....

if thats the case, i dont see there being any difference. But i do think there is a difference on the lower timing chain gears? and possible the timing wheel, so just be aware of that. obviously when you take them apart youll be able to see that.

If the 96 is a Mustang motor, it's a Romeo. I'm pretty sure the Crown Vic is aswell. Truck motor, Idk.

Just use your timing components from the 02 (I'd use the 02 cover too).
The good thing about using the 02 components over the 96 ones is you get the better trigger (timing) wheel........Ask me how I know this...
