stiff shifter

Received a short throw shifter for Christmas. . Installed it today, it's crazy tight, I have to really put some force into it pushing to the right to get it into 5th from 4th and from neutral to reverse and I'm a bigger, stocky guy, is it normal to be this tight? Also it's a little notchy, but nothing too serious

Oh, and there is no grinding or anything like that, just really hard to shift to the far right gears.. If there isn't an issue I guess I'll just deal with the stiffness because the throws are noticeably shorter

Thats the purpose brother!

So 5th and reverse are supposed to be really hard to push the shifter over far enough to get in to?

What brand is it? My Hurst started off VERY stiff and notchy, but it's loosened up a bit (especially the stiffness; less so the notchiness) over the past couple years.

I couldn't tell you honestly, I don't feel appropriate asking, it being a gift and all, but I don't mind it as long as it isn't hurting anything.. I've been leaving it in reverse when parking it ( the hardest gear to get in to) to see if it helps loosen it up

Also, I know it won't be a crappy one, considering it's my dad and he always makes sure I get reliable brands, etc..

What color is the shift handle? It didnt have a brand imprint on the base?

I believe it will loosen up quite a bit. It probably doesn't help that its been incredibly cold out.

De Nub 03gt 01-17-2014 10:58 AM

It has loosened up a lot since I started this thread, thanks everyone

should tell you what kind it is on the base of the shifter
