Default Transmission/grinding noise....

Checked forum and a couple of existing threads but they don't align well to what I'm experiencing but seems like it may be input/output bearing or rear gears. But not seeing symptoms similar to mine. Here is what I'm experiencing with my 99gt:
I can shift gears fine. No grinding or noise as I shift. However, when I am in gear, and it seems most noticeable in 4th and 5th, I notice a type of grinding noise ONLY when I take my foot off the accelerator, i.e., during deceleration. As soon as I hit the gas, it goes away until I let off again.

It sounds like it's coming from the transmission (gears maybe) or it may be coming from the rear end but it's hard to tell.

Thanks gang!

Its probly your rear gears, most of them make a little noise on decel. As long as it isn't obnoxiously loud I wouldn't worry to much about it. But to set your mind at ease get a video recording of the sound and put it up on youtube and share it here.

Thanks. It just sounds oddly loud. And I'm concerned of the possible wear that may be occurring. As its generally loudest in 4th/5th, will try recording with digital recorder I have...will try to post here. No doubt I'll take my car to tuner/shop as well. May be opportunity to put in 3.73 too

I've been having noise from my rear end for a while now, I was just going to do my axle bearings but figured since the gear box has to get opened up I might as well upgrade to 4.10's I bought the install kit from American Muscle so I will have all new bearings and shims and also going to upgrade to new axles. If there's still noise after this I won't know what else to do. Anyone know what I can expect for labor cost?
