Default Stick new edge faster than Auto?

I hear pretty often people claiming that the manny new edge is faster than the auto. Some even claiming it has a whole second faster quarter mile time. I highly doubt this considering they have most of their specs the same. bhp and torque exactly the same. Weight is the same. Heck, even the stock final drive ratio on both is 3.27. So why is it that the manual is said to be so much faster than the auto?

(manual transmission)

Weight is NOT the same. The 4R70W adds about another hundred pounds or so.

I think the manual's top gear is also a little taller than OD on the 4R70W.

Thanks, I must be getting old, never heard of that expression. Modern consensus is that automatics geared comparably are faster than manual transmissions because the torque converters are more efficient and they shift faster than in the old days. The C7 Corvette is a second faster than the manual version and all of the DCT transmissions will blow the doors off a manual in every way which is why all the exotic high performance cars use them.

but the 4R70W comes in at 140 lbs give or take a few pounds. You're telling me the manual tranny weighs 40 pounds?

I was going off of a MVMA spec sheet, which lists a dry 4R70W at 201 lbs. Adding fluid to that brings up a total of somewhere around 230 lbs.

I couldn't find an official spec sheet for the manual (and TBH, I'm not sure which manual transmission we're talking about here), but most sites I see are quoting both the T-45 and the TR-3650 at about 120 lbs dry.

Five speeds versus four. The gearing makes a difference.

Moving to the sn95 section. .
