Default Oil pressure too high

Ok so I have bought a 2000 gt and the oil pressure is always high. There is no knocking or ticking going on but after I drive it I can smell burned oil and I got maybe 100 miles after my motorcraft oil change. I did read somewhere that there is a internal restrictor valve that could be going out in the oil pump. Any ideas?

you going off the gauge on the dash? if so its just a dummy gauge. it either reads or doesn't read. if that gauge is pegged one way or the either usually the sender is bad but it could also be a cluster problem.

burned oil smell is probably unrelated

If it's always high, it's probably the sender. If it's high when the oil is still cool, that's normal.

If the gauge is any where but in the middle, you have a concern, as mentioned above it could possible be either the sending unit or a cluster/gauge issue, based on no knock or cam noise

Yea I haven' noticed any ticking of any sort. I' thinking it may be the sender as well since it never moves. From the time it starts to the time I turn it off its always in about the 3/4 way. I' going to replace the sender and see how that works. The sender would be a cheaper route but I do know when I turn my car on all the gauges will be still at 0 and then about 5 seconds into running they will hit the correct destination. So kinda stuck between which one to switch first.

again, the gauge on the dash isnt a "real" gauge, it wont go up and down with engine speed/temp. it either shows pressure or doesnt. so if it reads 0 when off then jumps up to 3/4 when running then its most likely doing its job. If you want to know actual oil pressure you will need to install an aftermarket gauge and sender.

What are you considering as high on your gauge? Take a picture of it and post it. Mine in my 2004 is always a little high but it’s barely ever moved. Except for the one time I lost all of my oil (fun story) and slight variations for a few seconds after an oil change until it balances out.
