Default Previous owner had a “cam swap” and it wasn’t tuned?

Hello, I’m no car enthusiast, I’m actually a newbie so try to keep the answers simple lol.I just bought a 2002 Mustang GT last week. The only problem I’ve ran into with it so far is that it runs rich. The previous owner said there’s an aftermarket cam in it, that hasn’t been tuned, that’s his reasoning for it running rich. I’m not sure what this means, but how could I go about getting it tuned? I don’t even know what cam is in it.

If it is running too rich, and it was out of parameters, the CEL would be on
for a rich condition. If the CEL is not on, then it's not out of spec.

Yes, a CAM can cause this, if it's a bigger cam. It creates less vacuum at idle
and cruising speeds, but the the ECM still thinks it's under a load, so the fuel
curve isn't changed to match the CAM. It may also be lean up at higher RPMs.

The reason for putting another CAM in, is higher air flow through the engine.
So, while it maybe rich low end, it could also be lean at top end, because
the fuel curve is stock. It will need tuned for the cam.

If the car doesn’t have cats in the mid pipe it will stink out a closed space or garage in no time. As stated above. If the fuel trims were too rich the pcm would throw the check engine light.
