Help! UD pullies and air conditioning

Help! UD pullies and air conditioning
I installed underdrive pullies last winter right after I bought the car. This summer, the air conditioning will barely keep up in the extreme Texas heat. My '97 Stang would freeze me out in the same weather. Question is, Is this typical, is it a legacy of the underdrive pullies (I generally cruise at about 2K rpm), or do I need to have mine checked out? Has anyone calculated the reduction ratio for the A/C with UD's? Thanx

RE: Help! UD pullies and air conditioning
UDPs will slow down your A/C compressor which, in turn, reduces the cooling capacity of the AC system. Wether or not that will bother you depends on how much A/C you like and what the outside temps are like.
I also live in Texas, and I like it COLD in the car so personally I won't be installing UDPs.

My UD pulleys dont seem to have any affect on ac. It has been 90 plus for the last few weeks here. Last week we had a few 100 plus days and are scheduled for more this week. My ac feels the same as it did before my install. No problems here.

The UDPs are not going to affect your AC performance unless you are sitting in traffic at an idle for long periods of time. I wish people would quit freaking out about this. Geesh... How long have gearheads been using UDPs? If it really hurt accessories I think there would be proof y now instead of speculation.
As for your AC issue, there is a TSB out on system leaks. You might consider having the dealership check the charge level, check for leaks, etc.

But, in answer to your question: "How long have gearheads been using UDPs?"
About as long as they have been plagued by cooling, electrical, and A/C problems from screwing with the rates at which these things turn
Sorry - it was just sticking out there, had to be done...

Yea, because that 15% decrease at 2500 rpm is going to make a difference in an electrical system that is designed to achieve maxium output at 2000 rpm. Same goes for the AC.
