Did the SS Camaro have a 6 speed manual transmission? If so, those things have a helluva tall 6th gear (like the Corvette) at roughly 0.5:1 where our transmissions have a top gear ratio of 0.75:1 (automatic) and 0.68:1 (manual).

That tall gearing on 6th gear will give you good gas mileage.

I took mine to GA on an 800+ mile trip coming and going. I ran 80 going out and got 24mpg; I did 90 coming back and got 23.5mpg.

The car has an automatic transmission and at that time a 3.31 rear gear.

I plan on doing the same trip soon and it will have the Saleen SC plus a 3.73 rear gear!

Brand new car (<150 miles) and in stop and go (0-40-0-20etc) with revving up and changing gears. Downshifitng into 4th on the freeway and accelerating up and down and driving around town netted me about 18MPG. I'm not too dissapointed.

you guys that take your mustangs for very long distances are brave I would never drive my mustang for 2000 miles, wow. I get like 14-15 in the City by the way. But when I really drive hard I get like 10 miles per gallon. But the machines are made to be driven so more power to y'all. I would still rather rent a car and beat on that.[:-]

I just drove home (100 miles) going anywhere from 65-85 cruising in 4th to 5th gear accelerating and decellerating quiet a bit to help break in, 25.6 mph with 300 miles on the car. If I had set the cruise control maybe 28?
