Default 20mph->60mph 2nd gear time test

I wondered if some of you might be willing to try a simple acceleration test that we can all benefit from the data gathered. Please be safe, and no the results aren't being paid for or published.

3 passes and do an average of the 3.
car in 2nd gear, traction control off, full tank of whatever octane you run, note outside temperature

rolling at 20mph (neutral pedal pressure..your not accelerating or decelerating) in 2nd gear..
have timer ready and push start on your timer as you go full throttle at 20mph
have finger on stop of timer and push stop as you hit 60 mph.

No full throttle accelerating before 20mph and hitting timer as you accelerate through 20mph.

Here are my results from my 2006 Mustang GT (5spd):

5 runs where I threw out the highest time (5.6) and lowest time (5.3):
89 degrees, full tank 93 octane, stock tune, 285 18 Pilots on rear

Run 1: 5.49 seconds
Run 2: 5.40 seconds
Run 3: 5.37 seconds
Average ~5.42 seconds

takes me about 2.5 seconds to go from 30-60 (second gear power zone). first take about 2seconds from 0-30 with traction issues. if you are taking over 5seconds to go from 20-60, something is wrong

Or, as you put it, he isn't in the power zone for that gear, 20 to 60 means he's starting too low for 2nd, which means nothing is wrong, just not optimum for speed.

I'm going to test this as soon as the Chicago area stops melting from the damn heat.

The test starts at 20mph not 30mph.

I bet Sleeper if you try from 20mph you much closer to my times if your stock.

At 30 mph the car is pulling into the powerband. My car shows at 20mph the revs are just below 2,000.

Do the test as instructed and I'll be surprised if you hit below 5.3 which was my best time unless its much cooler where you live.

Thanks for participating.

Dare I ask if there is an underlying point to your experiment?

If I am going to be experimented upon, I'd like to know the hypthosis - assuming it is more interesting than "I'll be surprised if you hit below 5.3"

That and it goes against everything the internet stands for to muddy good a debate with facts... I think you must be up to something truely evil

If we all hit 60 in 5.3 seconds, we can time travel just long enough to see tomorrow's lotto numbers.

Seriously, it is just a fun comparison to see what effects mods have and what stock to stock times are. It would be interesting to see auto vs manual times as well.

I have kept track of these on my old '97 M3, and if the times on average didn't improve, I ditched the mod!

Hope you will try it and post the results.

Thanks,

Okay so here goes some modded times. Horrible day to test it however... Temperature was right around 98 degrees and the heat index was around 106. So the humidity as you can imagine was unbearable but nonetheless I ran a few passes with A/C off of course. 20mph couldnt put the stang in a worse part of the power band.. It looked like I was starting somewhere around 1900 rpms. Run 1: 4.41 Run 2: 4.66 Run 3: 4.89 I believe heat soak was to blame because I actually had driven 12 miles before I got a chance to test this. And as I went on my times kept falling. HAHA. Ask people to test this in the winter. Cause I have countless other little times logged from winter that I just cant seem to reach in the dead of summer.

Good measure of broad torque curve...

I was going to try, but the fates conspired and the normally open road was not so open this afternoon...

All would normally not be lost, but the next time she moves, she does so with ever so slightly more pressure flowing into the cylnders... I think I'll be keeping this mod after the 20-60 test - I will post the numbers...

Hey Thanks for trying Gkaufgman!

I'm loading my Evo 93 Octane tune and JLT2 this weekend so I hope to get down into the high 4 second range!

Any more people want to post their results?

TIA,
