Hydrocarbon Trap/Removal

Hydrocarbon Trap/Removal
I recently purchased a used '05 GT Premium (2342 mi).
Located in the intake track is a "so-called" "hydrocarbon trap" ..........all news to me.
I installed a K&N FIPK, the instructions warned me not to omit a so-called "hydrocarbon trap". What Up!
I'm would like to remove this intake obstruction.
For those of you, who did this, any negative reluts

Thanks,
I did a search for "hydrocarbon filter"/"hydrocarbon trap" and found no information relative to problems, if any on removal. Perhaps I missed it somehow.
Anyway, thnaks, for the input and I will remove mine this PM.

...Like Shortbus JUST POSTED, Ford stopped putting them in the Mustangs midway through 2005. Only the early-production 2005s have it.
