My '79 had a .50 4th gear. Spun 1800RPM @ 85 . 3RD gear was 1:1. BTW it was an SROD (single rail overdrive) trans.

Hey guys, for you that have changed your gears, how does the car do on the highway? I know the last time I had 4.10's on a car, the thing twisted some rpms going down the highway and really ruined the enjoyment level of cruising in the car. What kind of rpm's are you getting at 80mph and how much higher is that than the 3.55's?

Depends if it is an automatic or a manual:
automatic OD gear is 0.75:1--works best with a 3.73 so you have some OD left on the highway!
manual OD gear is 0.68:1--works best with a 4.10.
I am taching 2000 @ 60mph and about 2500 @ 75mph. I also have the 18" fanblade wheels, automatic transmission, and 3.73 gears.

RE: GUYS WITH THE GEARS 3.73/4.10..GOT A ?
t3650 5th gear is .62 not .68, the t-5 is .68, also, the 4.6 are modular motors, not pushrods, so they rev happy, my rule would be 4.30s in a 5 speed 4.10s in auto

BTW, [sm=WTFsgign.gif] is this article you posted where the dude says most come with 3.27 gears; they come with 3.31s now or for 2005 and 2006 they had either 3.31s with automatics and 3.55s with manual. This data may be true for older models, but it isn't right for 2005-2007 models!!
4.10 is TOO MUCH FRIGGIN GEAR for an automatic! Unless all you plan to do is 1/4 runs all the time!
A 3.73 gear is perfect for the automatic transmission. I know because I have one and just got over 25mpg driving 80 mph and taching about 2625 @ 80mph!! A 4.10 or 4.30 would take away any OD left on the automatic transmission.
As you say, if you don't know, don't give advice!

Is it true that some dealerships will install gears and not void your warranty?
I am walking a very fine line as it is, with CAI/tuner/midpipe, but I am absolutely DYING to put these gears in and don't know if I can wait another 30,000 miles. I am starting to think I should do it and hope I have no issues.
Are they even going to be able to tell you did this unless your gears mess something up and they are actually digging around in there?

It's all a matter of opinion - what you can and can't live with. have the 4.10's in my auto, and in my opinion, there's no other way to go! I drive over 60 miles round trip each day. With these gears, I'm turning about 2500 rpm's at 70 mph. In town, the performance is great!! At full throttle, I'm barking the tires in both second and third!! Of course, the Brenspeed tune probably has a lot to do with that...
