Question about "Off Road" pipes

Question about "Off Road" pipes
I've looked at some threads about people installing off road X Pipes. What exactly makes them "off road?" Are they without cats and non emission standards compliant? Are they too loud for normal street use?
Does being called "off road" make it illegal for regular street use?
What's the difference in HP gain between regular X Pipes and Off Road X Pipes?

RE: Question about "Off Road" pipes
They are called "off road" pipes becasuse they they have no cats and therefore are not emissions legal. That makes them illegal to use on public roads. They are not street legal.
Are they too loud? That is a matter of opinion. Some people think they are too loud, some don't.
Difference in HP? I would say between OEM and an offroad pipe, maybe 8-10 HP tops. However, you can get a new X-pipe that has high flow cats instead of no cats. That will be almost as good as an offroad pipe, but you get to keep your cats.

RE: Question about "Off Road" pipes
I have an offroad h-pipe on my car with MIL eliminators. As far as emissions go they plug into your ecu and check. Mine passed with flying colors. Now as far as loudness.......it a big BIG difference.

RE: Question about "Off Road" pipes
This depends on your location.
In some areas they just scan your computer. If that's all they do in your area, then even though the off-road pipe is illegal, you aren't likely to get caught.
However, in other areas they do visual inspections (look for cats) and/or tailpipe "sniffer" tests. If your state/county/whatever has this kind of inspection, don't expect to pass if you have an offroad pipe.

295/45 R18. Same size as on the Lightning pickup, 4.30 gears.
The wheels are FR500 replicas, the fronts are 18 x 9, the rears are 18 x 10.5. I had the rears widened by weldcraft.
I don't have any pics at the moment, sorry.
