CAI Tunes
 

I have a 2007 GT on the way and i was wondering what the power/feel difference is between getting a CAI with a 91+ tune as opposed to getting a 87-89 tune. I live in the mountains and mileage typically sucks up here. I was also wondering if anyone has any experience with S&B's CAI, is it any good?

If you want exact HP numbers for different octane ratings, you should probably ask one of the Dyno tuning shops, like Brenspeed, Evolution, etc.

I noticed a significant difference by the "seat of the pants" Dyno between the low-octane tune and the 92 tune.

Personally, I think the high-octane tune is very worthwhile. It is among the more economical mods. Think about it: Premium gas (92/93 octane) is usually $0.20 more per gallon than the cheap gas. I put about 10,000 miles per year on my car, and I get about 21 mpg on average. That means that I'm paying $95 extra per year buying premium gas as opposed to teh cheap stuff. $95/year for a noticeable improvement in power is quite inexpensive compared to the cost of many other mods. You can adjust that figure depending on how much you drive and what kind of mileage you get, but in the end it's probably not a whole lot of money.

I had a custom dyno tune done with 87 octane in tank. If I ran 93 octane would that be a problem? Or is it best to re-dyno with 93 octane in tank?

It shouldn't be a problem but you are actually going to get slightly less performance out of a higher octane rating if you have not adjusted your tune to take advantages of it (with more aggressive timing etc.)

So if your car is dyno tuned at 87, 93 buys you nada (except more expensive gas).

If you want to step up then you should get your car re-tuned for 93 either on a dyno or by buying a good mail order tune.
