FRPP vs. Pro 5.0 gears ?
I've searched the forum and can't find much feedback on Pro 5.0 8.8 rear end gears. In all of the discussions of gears, all I see mentioned (generally) are FRPP=good, Motive=noisy. Where does Pro 5.0 fall? I see they're offering 3.9's now, hence the curiousity. I haven't read anything negative about them, so what's the scoop?

RE: FRPP vs. Pro 5.0 gears ?
I seriously doubt that Pro 5.0 makes their own gears. There are very few factories in the world that actually make gears like this. Pro 5.0 islikely selling someone else's gears with their name on them. As for how good they are, I have no idea. I have not used them.
By the way, 3.90 is an inherently noisy ratio, which is why Ford doesn't make a 3.90 set. Several other brands do make them.
Also let me clarify things a bit. It's not that FRPP gears are quiet and motives are noisy. The difference is simply that the FRPP gears are easier to set up than the motives. Properly installed, both should be quiet. It's just that if you end up with a marginally skilled mechanic, it's harder for him to screw up the install with the FRPPs.

RE: FRPP vs. Pro 5.0 gears ?
I have the Pro 5.0 4.10 gears on and they do whine! Before everyone jumps on board and says the install was incorrect, the guy that did it is a certified master mechanic who has done many rear ends with no problem.I used Royal Purple 75W150 gear oil which I don't think helps anything either. Next gear oil change I'm going to put OEM gear oil in to see if it helps any. He's doublechecked everything and told me the pattern and backlash are right on. If I had it to do over again, I'd buy the Ford Racing gears only and never consider anything else.
The stock 3.55 gears that came with my GT were ultra quiet before throwing in the Pro 5.0 gears. I can't wait toput Ford Racing 4.10 gears in someday to get rid of the whine. There's little doubt they are by far the best ones out there.

if your mechanic is smarter then a monkey, the only gears that will whine are straight cut gears

BTW, the Pro 5.0 gears are interesting because they have a groove cut out of the ring gear to save weight; it saves 2.4 pounds off the rotating mass. thats a lot.
