here is a quote from another forum from someone else who has had their automatic die.

be careful of that sound,i noticed mine making whining noise in reverse,i have 10k miles and have been through 3 torque converters, and 2 tran oil pumps, check under car after being really hard on it,i believe its bolts 5 and 7 that leak,my dealer told me 4 automatics after u are hard on them u need 2 let them run in park at idle 4 at least 1 min.but this does not seem 2 help either,im going back tomorrow for 4 converter,
I think Sidmanic also had his tranny die.

Update; Mine tranny died at 1500 miles 4 runs at the track and some hard street driving 455 rwhp.Dealer said these trannys can't handle this kind of power. Brent at Brenspeed broke his 3 gear band. My tranny got hot for some reason, I'm getting the deep dish pan from Brenspeed, dealer said this should help some. If I had to do it over I would have stuck with the cai and tune. I'm afarid to drive hard now, can't afford to keep replacing trannys.

Brent broke his 5R55S running 600 RWHP on the dyno. He is going to put a 4R70W transmission conversion kit behind that 600 RWHPturbo motor but that motor recently puked on Brenttoo.
I have been flogging my Stage III 5R55S tranny and so far it performs perfectly but likes to spit tranny fluid out the vent after hard driving. It has weathered hard launches with slicks and 1.6 60' times so far!
