Default s197 stock vs. s281 saleen

Hi guys,

Can anyone tell me the difference between these two engines? Some say that the s197 shouldn't exceed 400hp. But, the saleen can put out 475+. Are the engines the same?

i believe the 475 is at the crank, not the wheel, so that would put it to 400rwhp give or take

Yeah, way give! 475 HP at the crank would translate into 10% less at the rear wheels and that's all you'd lose with an automatic. Less with a manual of course.

ive looked into turbos on the new s197 and at turbo horsepower they said dont exceed 500hp on the s197...so i wouldnt get over 450 -470 rwhp unless i went internal

I woudn't go over 450 max, anymore, even if you baby it, you could be living on borrowed time. it would be hard not to baby it.
10% or less to the drivetrain lost, in a perfect world maybe. I know before the heavy driveshafts in the S197's the rule of thumb was around 13-15% lost for manuals and around 18-20% lost for autos. For me i kept doing the mathwith 13% lost, but with a heavy driveshaft they have now, probably 15%.
10% of 300HP is -30HP, so that means we would be putting down 270HP to the wheels, more if the % goes down. that would be nice.
