4.10 vs. 3.55's
I was wondering if anyone took thier car to the track with stock gears to get a baseline and then returned with 4.10's? I'm eager to hear the diff it would make on my e.t.'s i recently went 13.03 at 107mph... what should i expect with the gear swap to 4.10's...I do have a buddy that has turned his car into a complete 1/8 mile car. he doesn't care about gas milage or long trips unless its to knoxville dragway. He crammed a 4.56 in his, itsbrutal but that's way to much for me. I do use my car for vacations, i couldn't imagine trying to visit my folks in new york, and having to run 60 the whole time on the interstate.

4.10s in an auto or 4.30s in a 5 speed (what i recomend) at 80 mph you will be a tick under 3k and loose no more then 2.5 mpg, you will see atleast half a second off, also, some people may say go less if you plan on a centri blower, but IMO, 4.10s are fine with even that as long as you do suspention work

Being that you probably cross the traps in 3rd right now... I'm going to say you won't see much improvement on your ET due to the extra shift, but you'll probably pick up 1mph.
If you are into drag racing then the ultimate goal is to cross the traps at the top of a gear... with 4.10's you need to trap around 120mph to really maximize them... 4.3's around 114mph. So, my personal opinion is that if you are N/A 4.3's are the way to go and if you are super charged 4.10's are the way to go.
I'm planning on going 4.10's simply because I like the extra acceleration and my new commute has me on back roads that prevent me from getting up into the higher gears, thus dropping my gas mileage tremendously. I don't really care too much about having the perfect drag racing car.

you want to cross the line in your 1:1 gear at your peak power level or slightly below

Also if you can keep your 60' times as good or better than you could with stock 3.55s you ought to be quicker even with making the extra shift.
