Default throttle body spacers?

Are they worth talking about or just expensive paper weights? The kit I ordered comes with one and I was just wondering if I should install it or sell it to some poor sucker on ebay.

Not really worth it. No gains, maybe better milage. Same for the throttle body itself. Many problems with aftermarket ones, more pain than gain. Do not replace it.

I thought the BBK throttle body was a good deal. I read a few magazine articles a couple of years ago about it and it seemed like a good deal back then.

as far as the spacer goes, I had my doubts all along.

A few years ago maybe, but on the new mustangs changing the TB causes more nightmares than anything else.

Care to discuss it sometime later? more specific? I got to go watch adult swim right now, but my curiousity just peaked.

even on the old ones, it would do nothing without porting the intake or replacing the plentum, you would get about 5 HP on blown cars, TB spacers dont do anything period

Seriously. Just do a forum search, you can read MANY horror stories about guys that changed out these parts and the only effect was the car running poorly and/or going into limp mode.

These are just cheap bolt-ons marketed by companies that are out to get your money. TB spacers were popularized for older generation vehicles (where in some cases they did work) but now people are marketing them for everything under the sun. (Just like strut tower bars). If adding a tiny bit of "space" behind the throttle body would really give you more HP, don't you think that Ford would have designed the manifold a little differently from the factory? It would have cost them ten cents for a little more plastic...

If you want the straight answer call up Brent @ Brenspeed or Fred @ Evolution or someone at JDM. They have done hundreds of dyno tests. Ask them if they work or not.

Default RE: throttle body spacers?

i think JDM now sells a kit with the same setup i have. it's a spacer thats ported to accept the shelby/V10 twin 60mm t/b. i think it's $299 which is way cheaper than the BBK and it actually works from what my tuner tells me. mine is going on this weekend to verify that claim. since it is a ford oem piece it uses the same type of gear mechanism as the stock 05 t/b's do. that is where most of the problems have been in the aftermarket pieces.
as far as hp goes n/a probably less than 10hp gain but when running higher boosts on a whipple/kenne bell setup the made 75hp more with the t/b spacer and bigger maf. maybe their base tune wasn't great and that # is high but it's still got to be worth some power when you are up above 500hp.
i have about $130 in the setup and an hour porting the spacer to fit the new t/b so even if it doesn't work i haven't lost a ton of money. i'll post a thread on it once i get things installed and test it out at the track.

Throttle body spacers are based off of old carb plates or spacers that spaced a carb from an intake to increase fuel atomization heading into the intake runners for a more complete burn. On a TB, a spacer really does nothing but put the airflow into turmoil as it heads down the intake runner. Honestly I think its just a way to get more money from your pocket
