What's my next mod?

RE: What's my next mod?
Dont touch teh TB or cams...
I went in a couple days ago and spent some time talking with the guys at Steeda and they had some great advice...
He told me what to do in the longrun adn what to avoid...
THis is coming straight from Steeda, so i'm pretty damn sure that they know what they are talking about too...
There are 5 bolt-on mods for these cars that are worth your time...
Intake
Pullies
Delete Plates
Full Exhaust
Tune
Now obviously there suspension and all that other fun stuff, but power wise, thats all you should do...he told me that once you have those 5, stick with it and if you want more...get a blower.
I even asked him specifically about the TB and about the cams and his advice was;
If you want to do that, you'll have to rebuild to make it noticeable...the heads/cams on these cars are fantastic and should not be touched...
for maximum power...do the above listed and then build up a bottom end and use the stock top end of the engine;
New block (stronger)
Pistons
Rods
Steel crank
and of course all the little fun things that you get nickled and dimed over...
So if your scenario, i would suggest the delete plates and a set of pullies and then a re-tune...
after that, its up to you...but I was told that cams are useless and nothing but headaches at this point in time (Mainly becuase all the cams on the market right now arent any better than stock...they are working on better ones, but they arent available now...AND throttle bodies are only good for 2hp give or take...as long as you have the CAI, your set...)
thats my two cents, hopefully it helped....but I would focus on suspension once you get the bolt ons ready and after that..save for a blower...

RE: What's my next mod?
I think he should get his uspension taken care of with at the least new LCA's with the BMR re-locate, a ZEX kit, DR's. Then maybe some shocks and springs.
I think having suspension taken care of is extremely important. People dont't realize the time (ET)they can loose by not upgrading their suspension with their power upgrades.

I agree with you compeletly. I got the same advice from Steeda (used to work in Pompano FL about a mile from Steeda). Did the Steeda CIA with SCT tune, delete plates and underdrive pulleys (no exhaust, not worth it if you have to keep the stock cats and go with shorties, as you do here in California) and got 311 RWHP and 328 RWTQ. Best bang for the buck considering the average stock 5 speed GT comes with somewhere around 273 RWHP. Also note on the chart below that you get lots of low end torque anda very broad power band with this combination of parts, perfect for the street. Note that my Stang has 80% of peak torque form 1900 rpm's through 6000+ rpm's. With 4.10's, which I have installed,it pulls like an SOB out of the hole (Powerhousealuminum driveshaft should be delivered to my house tomorrow, will be in the car by tomorrow night).
I also agree that if you are thinking about a power adder (including Nitrous)you have to beef up the bottom end, ask any pro (assuming they arn't trying to sell you something). The powdered rods these 3V engines come with, just can't take the strain of 450+ and willcome apart at some point (generally throught he side of the block).

RE: What's my next mod?
dseid2...
you are completely correct!!
Dex...
save it and buy a blower or turbo...your also correct...but i'd suggest starting with the 5 bolt ons and going from there...its beneficial for the driver to slowly keep adding horsepower instead of a sudden jump to 450+, allows them to get a feel for the car as it improves as well as allowing the engine to get used to more and more power...
comes down to how bad you want your next mod and what your pocketbook looks like...
