Default Thinking of converting to Mobile-1 Syntheitc oil.

If I do so, will I void my warranty in any way and how often should I change my oil after doing so?

I've got almost 12k miles.

Its a highly recommended synth. oil even by Ford Motor Co. as long as you keep up the oil changes and have a record of it and don't put like 75w 50 in your engine your waranty will be fine.

I've been using Mobil1 in my current 4Runner for the past 100,000 + miles (i change that oil & filter every 10,000 miles and it doesn't use oil between changes) and in my previous 4Runner for over 200,000 miles. It's an excellent oil. I just did my 1st oil change on my Stang and am using AMSOIL's 0W-20 (replaces their 5W-20 for this application). I consider Mobil1 next best to Amsoil. As far as your warranty, my stealership said that as long as you keep your receipts and records to prove you've done the oil changes and with the correct oil and filter then you won't void the warranty.

Besides the better protection and performance afforded by a good synthetic, I've reduced my oil change frequency on my SUV threefold. I'll probably bemore conservative with the Stang but still won't be doing 3,000 mile oil changes since Amsoil backs their oil/filter combo for the 0W-20 at 15,000 or 25,000 miles (can't remember which... the mind goes after 50). I'll probably changethe Stangat about 8-10k miles.Yeah, I'm comfy with that.

So Amsoil is better than Mobile 1? A couple that I work with sell Amsoil, I'll have to get in contact with them.

Main reason I want to switch to synthetic is I drive about ~1700 miles a month so 3k oil changes come pretty freakin often. If I can push that out to 8 or 10k, that would be great.

isnt the stuff that comes from the factory synth-blend? so putting dino oil in after that wouldn't be good?... right?

1. yes a regular 100% petroleum based oil would be a bad thing in these cars.

2. FWIW I dumped the factory oil at 1000mi and swapped to mobil one 5w20 and mobil one filter, but will still change it every 3mos/3k miles (I romp on the thing plus plan on a lot of dragstrip time)...it's (relatively) cheap insurance...

In the Ford Owners manual , petroleum based oil or synthetic oil are both recommended and approved. By the way the oil does not wear out. but the additive package does and if you drive too long on the oil (5w20 for example ) You areleft with just a 5 weight oilwithNO 20 weight protection.

Thanks for all the responses. Will running synthetic help performance at all? Like lessing resistance, or will it be about the same.

Has anyone suggested the use of Royal Purple?
I've heard good and bad reviews about it.
Evidently if an engine is old enough, you'll have problems with leaks.
If it's a late model with low miles you'll be good to go!
Saw positive reviews on using it for the engine and drive train, i.e. tranny and diff'on TV recently.
Just my 2c.
