Default What's so good about 4.10 gears?

Been reading a lot of posts about 4.10 gears, can anyone tell me their experience with them - are they really so much more fun, if so why didn't Ford fit a shorter ratio as standard? What 0-60 improvement is achieved - has to better right or why bother?

I had them installed on my last mustang. It was a 2000 Mustang GT 5 speed. It woke the car up, but after a few months, I was sorry I made the switch. My highway crusing suffered and the rear end made lots of noise. They will absolutely make your car quicker at the track, but for a daily driver, I don't see the need to crack open the factory differential. Unless you are really into drag racing and know an excellent, proven Mustang mechanic, I would not bother. I'm perfectly happy running mid 13's with a my 3.55 rear and still obtaining 25 mpg on the highway.

this is the next mod i'm getting. 4.10's and a pro 5.0 short throw shifter. I want to be quicker off the line. i know that i will lose some top end but i'm not going to drive over 100 mph that often anyway. this is not my daily driver so I want to make it fun when i do drive it . everyone that i talk to that have 4.10's love it, so i got to have it too.

I laugh every time this post comes up. If you really need to be driving 155 MPH to work every day.... don't get the 4.10s.

If you like slower acceleration and a long wait before the car makes enough RPMs to respond.....don't get the 4.10s

If you are looking in sofa cushions for pennies for gas....don't get the 4.10s

With this car/tire size I think the additional RPMs are only about 200 at 60 MPH. I have put gears in several cars over the years (the cars I owned that I cared about), and my truck (4.56s). You won't hear a single complaint from me. My Mustang gets 4.10s this week.

...The car does wait a long time til it gets into the 3000+ rpm power band from a standstill, I hate that, just isn't what you expect of a sports car (I've owned a few).

Well a set of gears will help you with that. You should also get a CAI and a Tune if you haven't already. Both of these mods will make a HUGE difference and you'll be very satisfied I assure you.

Then you need 4.10 gears. It's ridiculous how fast the revs go up compared to 3.55's.

That said i think i'll be regretting the 4.10's once I put the whipple on. It would be nice to hit 140 in 4th with the SC, but I would probably never go that fast anyway so in a way it's good i'm limited to 120's.

Think about it this way imagine how hard your second pulls imagine your second gear after 4.10 feel like its in first gear when you punch it. and when your in first gear it feels even faster. to sum it up all it does is make every gear shorter sooo each gear pulls harder then before. only downfall is your gonna be wasting more gas because your goin to be sitting at a higher rpm compared to stock. big deal why did you buy a v8 anyways? and another downfall is that you cant go faster then 160 mph............ when was the last time you past 140?

With 4:10s, you will be pinned back in your seat when you punch it. I have been above 140 with them and the car was still pulling. They are a lot of fun. I got them because a 'vette pulled away from me with ease on the Baltimore beltway. Hasn't happened since.
