3.73 gear question

RE: 3.73 gear question

As far as top speed, there are some lenghty threads on that one. (Personally, I don't think it would effect it much if at all. The Mustang has a very high drag coefficient and an extremely large profile for a sports car, it will be dragged limited long before you reach it's theoretical top speed.)
There are no flat roads where I live. Lots of hills, so stock at 60 mph the car wouldn't do much better than 25 mpg, usually a little less. (I think I was able to get 27 or 28 mpg on time, but I had to try really hard and sometimes travel less than 55 mph.)
When the 3.73's were installed it went down 2 mpg, both my average fuel economy and my highway fuel economy. It makes sense, too. The engine is moving about 11% faster, so figure it's using about 11% more gas. If I drive conservatively then I can get a little less than 23 mpg on the highway, sometimes I can get close to 24 mpg, maybe.
I would expect you to get about 21 mpg on the highway with gears if you're getting 23 mpg now.

Thanks for your reply.
So, have you noticed your highway mileage decrease from stock gears? I'm also curious about top speed...of course it's going to be reduced, but I've had my GT up to 135 so far, and there was plenty more, I just didn't have the juevos!

2500 is about right for 70-75 mph, just do it you'll love it...................I certainly do, my only regret is they didnt go in sooner than last week
