Exhaust Help
I am looking to throw a new exhaust on my 05' stang and have no idea what I am lookinf for. Can someone describe to me what I should be looking for? I can go on flowmaster's webpage and find out information on exhausts, but you guys talk about axel back and all that good stuff and I want to know what it means... If you have any suggestions, I am looking for loud, throaty sounding but not too obnoxious. Is there different sections that I should buy first second thrird etc? Help =)

RE: Exhaust Help
i would be intersted in knowing some general info as well....i just got my '07 GT vert.....
i do know however that axle backs are merely exhaust cans that go from the rear axle back....a cat-back goes all the way from the catalytic converter back....a full system usually will involve header pipes to a cat-back type system... what i was also curious about is the difference in an h-pipe vs. an x-pipe and exactly what they do in terms of an exhaust system...considering most cars i have worked on have a single exhaust pipe, i am assuming it has something to do with the dual-exhaust setup.... thanks guys..... |
RE: Exhaust Help
search for the exhaust guru's exhaust sound clip thread on this site. every kind of exhaust combo you could ever want

RE: Exhaust Help
X and H pipes can either be cat-less i.e. offroad or have cats. The stock system has an H pipe and cats. The cats don't flow that well on a stock car generally but there are high flow cats available. Generally X pipes make a littlemore hp but sound buzzy (some might say exotic)and less deep. H pipes sound more muscle car like but don't generally produce quite as much hp. The sound depends on the specific motor configuration. The general purpose of either the H or X is to equalize exhaust pulses from each side of the V8 (or V6 etc) motor. By doing so more air can flow more efficiently out of the motor. (a gas motor is simply a big air pump...more air in and more air out means more hp)The X or H pipes generally attach directly to the headers/exhaust manifold and run back to where an axle back exhaust attaches although insome systems you just weld the X or H into the existing exhaust pipes.Cat back systems are just that, they attach behind the catalytic converters and run out the back of the car.

RE: Exhaust Help
Here is a link with a whole bunch of different systems to listen to
https://mustangforums.com/m_3563477/tm.htm and here is a link to the system we just got for my wife's car https://mustangforums.com/m_3946800/tm.htm Good luck |
RE: Exhaust Help
The exhaust system on our cars is very good. People mostly swap out their mufflers for added sound, and maybe 1-2 hp(on a good day... don't count on it). I would recommend a cat back onlyif you are FI and need a better way to get all that exhaust out.

RE: Exhaust Help
Don't really need catbacks. If you just are looking for a deeper and little louder tone. just go with an axleback. It's hard to explain what your looking for? Mac and stingers are deep and have drone. gta's are a little deeper and louder than stock. SLP lms are loud. Any particular brand or price range? many people will tell you that flows just don't sound good on these cars. Flows are so popular for the last gen and 5.0s. just don't dound right on ours though, imo.

RE: Exhaust Help
I have an 07 as well and I installed the ford racing mufflers and they sound alot deeper than the stock mufflers. Don't think any gain but the sound is alot beefier.

RE: Exhaust Help
just remember, everyone's opinion is just that, an opinion. what sounds good to me, may sound like crap to you. best bet is to hear a setup in person before you decide
