top speed on 4:10 auto?

I had my 4.10s for a month now, it did hit about 125 in 4th at more than 6k rpms but didn't go beyond that.
what about when it switched over to OD?? where you still pulling?


also,is there a big difference in top end between the auto and 5 speed with the gears? I would think the auto would be a little lower because of only 4 real gears (?) plus the OD..

It took a little trouble to track it down, but the OD ratio in the AT isn't all that much different from the 5th gear ratio in the MT. 1st in the AT is also slightly taller, though the torque converter should buy you more than enough slack from a dead stop to cover the difference. 2nd and 3rd in the AT are shorter, but in the AT there's a bigger rev drop going into 4th.

Gear Ratios, SR55S AT:
3.22:1 1st gear
2.29:1 2nd gear
1.55:1 3rd gear (1.54 in another reference)
1.00:1 4th gear
0.71:15th gear (OD)
3.07:1 reverse

vs
Gear Ratios, 3650 MT:
3.38:1 1st gear
2.00:1 2nd gear
1.32:1 3rd gear
1.00:1 4th gear
0.68:1 5th gear
3.38:1 reverse

a 4:10 and tune should clean all that up correct? 2nd & 3rd gear difference being shorter gears with the 4:10a and going into forth too early?

when you guys are talking about tune,it does control the throttle better and shift points,say to shift right at peak hp/trq? say 5900?? (with the tuner)

With the Brenspeed tune I got it shifts between 6300-6500rpms (I think) 'cause acceleration now is so brutal I didn't take a good look at the rpm tach.

To answer your question if switching to forth with 4.10s affects acceleration, check this link of my car going from 0-125m/h hitting 6100-6200rpms in 4th.

that usually means only about 120 or so lol.
My only fear is that it'll be feriously quick up to a certain point then begin fall on it's face.[:'(]
I want an auto but right now,I am actually leaning more on the 5 speed for no other reason
that it's more fun to drive..it's like the red headed step child that everyone merely tolorates but is so much fun it doesn't even matter lol.

awesome vids!
I want the auto but a little apprehensive about it..I will miss driving a 5 speed a little too much,
though after driving my moms new ford edge and the nice pick up it gots,even with a measly 250
hp v6 it does actually have enough grunt to put a smile on my face as well as being horribly comfortable to drive. I can only imagine the power and torque of a sc kit..

how do you launch and do you ever shift on the street just for kicks?? say,power brake it then drop it in first to really rip the tires loose???

At the track, I keep the car in Drive and power-break to 2300-2400 rpms. Go on green. DRs are life savers.

On the street, I don't need to do anything special to get the tires spinning. From a dead stop i can just stomp the gas and spin the the tiresthrough first and most of 2nd without really getting going anywhere. It'll bog once it hits 3rd with the tires still spinning.

Stomping it at any speed under 35mph will give me tire spin.
