Default Exhaust question

I recently bought my wife a 2007 GT. Since it is her car, it is an automatic... I am looking to "liven up" the stock exhaust. My question is: do I need to go with a set of LTs and exhaust, or just one or the other? I know that any of those options will increase sound when on the throttle, but I would certainly like more sound at idle. It is just waaay too docile in its current form. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks,

Either way will make a difference. If it were me I would just look into some axel backs for now. Many different flavors and sounds so you'll have to search the forum but YouTube is good and Brenspeed has sounds clips as well. LT's will also make a difference but that will run about $1200-$1500 while the axel backs can be under $500 depending on brand. Good luck!

If it is your wife's car, what kind of changes doe SHE want?

That's where I would start.

+1 a set of new axle backs will wake her up. I have the pypes violators - they are medium loud while moving and not much more than stock at idle;although I've had several people tell me they can hear me a block away when I'm driving into their neigborhood. Based on your post they are probably not loud enough for you. Maybe the Mac or Loudmouths.

Just search on Youtube for "Mustang Exhaust" or "S197 Exhaust", tons of clips.

She wants her car to sound like mine...LOL... But that's not going to happen, because I don't want to spend that much $$$. Less than 10 minutes after we bought the car, she asked when her car was going to sound like mine. I told her we would start with exhaust and maybe some LTs...

BTW, what kind of RWHP gains might I see from an intake, LTs, and an exhaust? She does not really need the HP, but you can never have too much, right??

Thanks for the insight...

Look into the soundclip section of the forum. Lot's of good info there.

I have the FRPP Stingers (A.K.A. Borla Stingers, FRPP GT's) and they are a good bit louder than stock; a bit louder at idle and a lot louder at WOT.The GTA's are inbetween the GT's and stock. But be sure you know how MUCH more noise your wife wants. Some of the suggestions above may be more than SHE desires.

Thanks for the advice. We'll check the soundclip section and see what we like. The idle and WOT probably can't be too loud. I just want to make sure there is not too much drone when cruising at highway speeds. I know when I added LTs to my car, she thought the drone was a bit too much. Any suggestions for that? Basically, she is looking for the best of both worlds...

Go figure... women...

If drone is an issue do not get the Violators - they drone like a MF at 1800-2000 rpm...especially bad in an automatic.

if she wants to best of both world you are going to have to go with something like Corsa. They have the sound with no drone but they are going to cost a bit more than your average axle back. However they are the caddy of axle backs IMHO.
