Crank Pulley Bolt

Crank Pulley Bolt
Is the crank pulley bolt a 1 time use part? I had steeda UDP's installed then later I had the stock pulleys put back on. Should I have the bolt replaced? Could it cause vibration of some sort?

No you can re-use that sucker a bunch of times as long as you dont over torque it. Bolts that are usually one timers are called stretch bolts most of the time, and are used in such cases as head bolts where engine temps cause expanding and contracting of the bolt. the crank gets hot but not as hot as the head bolts so it doesnt experience the same stretching and contracting.

NO WAY. DO NOT RE-USE. This is a stretch bolt, you have to torque, them back off then turn 90 degrees.
If you want I can take a pic of the bolt that I reused *1* time that caused me all sorts of issues. Misfire codes, hesistation you name it. The dealership found this out when they had a Ford Engineer look at it because they couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. That $6 bolt cost me $200 for that experience (they cut me a break) and months of headaches. There is a timing element that can be thrown off by slight vibrations. When it was tightened the issue went away for the most part, but due to the condition of the bolt and it would loosen and it would start again.
The bolt got stripped and did some damage to my crank threads. How do I know this, I had to use vice-grips to pull on the bolt to find threads to get it out. No kidding. I then had a hell of time getting the new bolt back in, right before I went and traded it in for a 2008.
Spend the $6, trust me.

RE: Crank Pulley Bolt
^ if the bolt got stripped, it was the installer, not the bolt itself...
I would re-use the bolt...becuase like TDC71 said, it wont have the same properties as a head bolt or exhaust manifold bolt..
If any bolt is stripped it is going to cause problems.

yeah use it once and thats it. You have to torque it, loosen it a little bit and then torque it again. I was told it was a 1 time use bolt and thats coming from a ford tech so do as you want its not my car. Oh and I have my new bolt ready for my UDP install.
