Synthetic Oil...when to switch?

RE: Synthetic Oil...when to switch?
The only real benefit is that a full synthetic is not at all being pushed to its limits, if you will... And my opinoin is that if gas mileage is going to increase until 2,000-3,000 miles, that would lead me to believe that is the break in period. I waited until 5,000 miles to change over to synthetic. You are certainly fine at 6,000 miles. Use the motrocraft filter, it is one of the best and cheapest, if not, Ford Racing filters

RE: Synthetic Oil...when to switch?
yeah, there was a thread somewhere regaring oil filter comparisons, basically the motocraft is one of the best. needless to say I only found that out after I spent twice as much on a Mobil 1 filter.
I can tell you that I changed to Mobil 1 full syn and it is true that you don't need to change at 3k. some folks like to change at 3k but you don't need to. when i drained it the color still showed kind of carmelly-brown. it was not blackened. absolutely lasts longer than a regular oil.

the only real way to determine oil change intervals with your paticular car is by getting an oil analysis. blackstone-labs.com, cheap, easy, and great way to monitor your engine's internal wear.
Motorcraft's filter is very good compared to other generic filters. But i still pay extra for the M1 filter, synthetic fibers > cellulose medium. Longer change intervals can be achieved with M1 filter. But again, only way to know for sure is oil analysis.
i've oil analysis on several of our cars. All used M1, one car used Amosil. (all using M1 filter). On the turbocharged RSX, analysis recommends 5500 miles per interval. i go by that interval with no problems. On a friend's car, used amsoil +amsoil filter, 10K on the oil, analysis showed it could've gone even longer!! Synthetics do work, do not break down to extreme heat cycling as fast as dino oil does.

RE: Synthetic Oil...when to switch?
Ido 3,000 mile oil changes reguardless. So i guess it's gonna benfit me to stick with the syn-blend. I used to work for an auto parts store, and i just can't see motorcraft filtersas being superior, everything else they made just didn't stack up to other brands.
